The directors-general meeting is an opportunity to start discussions on the new cycle of the open method of coordination (OMC) post-2009, which will provide a basis and guidelines for future youth policy. The meeting is also an opportunity to define the long-term prospects in youth policy.

In the context of preparations for a new cooperation framework in the area of youth policy the European Commission will provide input by presenting initiatives and the ongoing process associated with the recognition of non-formal learning and voluntary activities of young people in Europe. A special item on the agenda will be mutual learning with the help of good practices that encourage the participation of disadvantaged young people.
