The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia and current President of the European Council, Janez Janša, will attend the 17th EU-Japan Summit Meeting, together with European Commission President José Manuel Barroso, European External Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson and European External Affairs and Neighbourhood Policy Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner. The Japanese delegation at the EU-Japan Summit Meeting will be headed by the Japanese Prime Minister, Yasuo Fukuda.

The debate will be devoted to global issues, such as energy, energy security and climate change, the situation in the world economy, including the position of developing countries, unresolved issues within the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and political and economic cooperation between the European Union and Japan. Among the regional issues on the agenda, the situations in Eastern Asia, the Middle East, Afghanistan and Myanmar will also be discussed.
