Venue: | Luxembourg |
Policy area: | Transport, Telecommunications and Energy |
Type of event: | Council of Ministers |
More: | The key topics of the session will be the legislative packages on energy and climate change and on the internal energy market. The ministers of the EU Member States will be invited to present their views on the main issues outlined in the progress report prepared by the Presidency on the basis of negotiations carried out in the months since the presentation of the legislation package on 23 January 2008. During the Slovenian EU Council Presidency, negotiations on the internal market have focused in particular on settling the question of the effective unbundling of energy companies. Negotiations have made some progress, however there are a number of issues outstanding, which the Ministers will try to settle at this session. The Slovenian Presidency would like to achieve agreement on the elements of the ‘general approach’ regarding all five proposals under discussion. At the end of the Council meeting, the Presidency and the Commission will provide information on international energy relations.
