The 8th South-East Europe Clearinghouse Conference (SEEC) will be held at Brdo pri Kranju from 18 to 20 June 2008. Alongside the six Western Balkan partner countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Croatia, Macedonia and Serbia), other countries and organisations specifically interested in cooperation in this region will also participate in this informal initiative chaired by Slovenia as permanent co-chair (represented by its Ministry of Defence – MORS) together with the United States EU Command (USEUCOM). The key emphasis of the conference will be on strengthening specific forms of regional cooperation identified within the SEEC process.

The conference will close with the 1st Informal Meeting of Defence Ministers of South-Eastern Europe which will be held on 20 and 21 June 2008 in Podčetrtek. Alongside the SEE Defence Ministers, the meeting will be attended by senior representatives of Italy, Hungary, the EU and NATO. The meeting, at which existing forms of and future possibilities for cooperation in the area of defence in the region, including practical forms of regional integration, will be chaired by the Slovenian Defence Minister Karl Erjavec. The participants will also exchange up-to-date information and views on defence and security sector reform in view of the processes of accession and integration into Euro-Atlantic structures. In addition, the standpoints of NATO and the EU will contribute to a broad overview of these issues.
