The European Commission and the Slovenian Presidency of the European Union organize a second seminar on diplomatic and consular protection of EU citizens in third countries in crisis situations open to representatives of the Member States - representatives in the Consular Affairs Working Party (COCON) of the Council and to the diplomatic and consular representatives of those Member States which have a representation in Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia, as the seminar will focus on these five Maghreb countries.

The seminar will be structured into three sessions, which will entail, respectively, an exchange of information and best practices regarding the changes in consular work due to crisis situations that developed since 2004; a debate on the role of the mass media in consular crisis situations and the Member States’ expectations on the role of the EU in dealing with citizens traveling to the five selected countries in terms of improving their safety.
