This year, said Troika Meeting will take place in Brussels during Slovenia's Presidency of the EU Council. The EU will be represented by the President of the EU General Affairs and External Relations Council, Slovenian Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel; the EU Commissioner for External Relations, Dr Benita Ferrero-Waldner; and the High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, Javier Solana. Canada will be represented by Canadian Foreign Minister Maxime Bernier.

The topics listed on the agenda this year will be Kosovo and the Western Balkans, Afghanistan and Pakistan, Latin America, Iran, the Middle East Peace Process, Africa (mainly Sudan, Chad and Kenya) and an overview of implemented agreements from the last EU-Canada Summit held on 4 June 2007 in Berlin.

Canada is one of the oldest and closest EU partners. Their economic partnership goes back as far as 1950, and it has developed into a close strategic alliance. The EU and Canada have been cooperating in a number of different areas, including the Afghanistan issue and the area of effective multilateralism.
