Policy area: | Transport, Telecommunications and Energy |
Type of event: | Informal Ministerial Meetings |
More: | The informal ministerial meeting will be devoted in particular to an exchange of opinions on the current challenges of the European transport system. The key objective of the Lisbon Strategy, i.e. economic growth along with the improvement of competitiveness and creation of new jobs, also requires a significant increase in trade flows. However, the reduced social acceptability of trade flows and associated infrastructure in a given environment, as well as the transport sector’s not inconsiderable environmental impact plus an ever-increasing demand for efficient energy use constitute restrictions which are to be discussed by the Transport Ministers of the 27 EU Member States with a view to finding harmonised solutions. The marked interrelatedness of all the key dilemmas may, if inappropriate measures are taken, have an extremely adverse impact on common goals as well as on individual restrictions. The informal meeting will, therefore, be an excellent opportunity for constructive and friendly discussions which could provide a basis for directing further activities. |
