State Secretary Šter meets Ghanaian Foreign Minister Osei-Adjei

On the occasion of the twelfth session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD XII), the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andrej Šter, today met with Ghanaian Foreign Minister Akwasi Osei-Adjei.

State Secretary Šter and Ghanaian Foreign Minister Osei-Adjei first expressed the need for further strengthening of relations between the two countries, particularly in the economic sphere. State Secretary Šter thanked Foreign Minister Osei-Adjei for the successful organisation of UNCTAD XII, which was held in Ghana from 20 to 25 April 2008.

Minister Osei-Adjei apprised State Secretary Šter of the situation in the region, particularly North Africa, and the measures taken by the Ghanaian government to reduce poverty and encourage the balanced development of the country.

Šter and Osei-Adjei exchanged views on international development cooperation and the outcome of UNCTAD XII, aimed at an exchange of views and new solutions in the fields of trade and development. They also discussed cooperation between the European Union and Africa after the EU-Africa Summit, which was held in Lisbon during the Portuguese EU Council Presidency. State Secretary Šter presented to Osei-Adjei the 18-month EU Council presidency programme drawn up by Germany, Portugal, and Slovenia. In this context, he outlined the priorities of Slovenia’s presidency, particularly in the field of development cooperation.
