At the close of the Slovenian EU Council Presidency, the State Secretary at the Slovenian Ministry of the Economy, Tomaž Jeršič, appeared before the MEPs on the European Parliament’s Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) to present the work and progress achieved during the Slovenian EU Council Presidency in the areas of energy, industrial policy, competition and telecommunications. He focused especially on the achievements of the EU Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council meetings held in June.
"We were ambitious in drawing up the Slovenian Presidency programme, but I believe we have fulfilled our ambitions," declared Mr Jeršič in opening.
On energy, the State Secretary highlighted, among other matters, the agreement in principle on the elements of the single energy market, progress on the Directive on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources within the legislative package on climate and energy, and the Transport, Telecommunication and Energy (TTE) Council conclusions on the Strategic Energy Technology Plan.
On telecommunications, too, Mr Jeršič presented the progress achieved by the Slovenian Presidency, in particular the legislative package on electronic communications, the political agreement on mobile satellite services and the TTE Council conclusions on the digital dividend.
On industry, the State Secretary mentioned the key issues paper adopted by the Council in February, underlined the progress made in policy on small and medium-sized enterprises and regarding a sustainable European economy and support for European success on the global market.
