EU Sports Ministers and Olympic Committee Presidents in Planica

Ministers for Sport and Presidents of National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of the EU Member States and the countries of the Western Balkans enthusiastically supported their national ski jumpers today, 16 March 2008, at the final day of competition of the 2007/2008 season World Cup Ski Jump Finals in Planica, Slovenia.

The Ministers and NOC Presidents enjoyed the competition at Planica, an event showcasing all the positive aspects of sport. “I consider this an ideal way to start the informal meeting of EU Ministers for Sport” said Dr Milan Zver, the Slovenian Minister for Education and Sport and current President of the Education, Youth and Culture Council after the competition, “It may become a tradition. I hope it will be an experience we can carry with us into tomorrow's meeting, when we shall primarily be discussing sport at the EU level and dialogue between the political and the civil spheres.”

After the competition, the Ministers and NOC Presidents also visited the Planica Olympic Centre, part-financed by the EU. They were particularly enthusiastic about the gym and exercise areas offering ski jump simulations as well as the commemorative museum areas.
