More: | The motto of this year’s World Health Day is PROTECTING HEALTH FROM CLIMATE CHANGE. The Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the European Union and the World Health Organisation’s Regional Office for Europe, are seeking to draw attention to health as one of the areas most affected by climate change. This subject will be discussed at a policy briefing taking place on 7 April 2008 in the premises of the Permanent Representation of Slovenia to the EU. Many countries across the WHO European Region are already experiencing health impacts related to climate change. These impacts are avoidable or controllable if well-known and well-tested public health interventions are applied. Health systems play a key role; they also have the knowledge and skills to respond. Yet, cross-sector partnerships are necessary to meet this global health threat – and health must be at the centre of climate change action and policy response. Additional information: |
