The Social Protection Committee (SPC) is a working body established in 2000. It serves as a vehicle for cooperative exchange between the European Commission and the Member States about modernising and improving social protection systems. Established practice in the European Union is for an informal meeting of the SPC to be held twice a year, each time in the country of the Presidency. Though the meeting is informal, discussions will follow an agenda, which is to be drawn up jointly between the presiding country and the SPC.
