Before the end of Slovenia's EU Council Presidency, the State Secretary at the Slovenian Ministry of the Economy Tomaž Jeršič will address the members of the European Parliament Committee on Industry, Research and Energy on 26 June 2008. In his concluding address to the ITRE Committee, State Secretary Jeršič will present the work and progress achieved during the Slovenian Presidency in the areas of energy, industrial policy, competition and telecommunications.

As regards the field of energy, the Slovenian State Secretary will draw attention, among other points, to the agreement in principle on the elements of the single energy market, to progress made with the Directive on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources within the legislative package on climate and energy, and to the TTE Council conclusions on the Strategic Energy Technology Plan.

In the field of industry, Jeršič will draw attention to the Key Issues Paper adopted by the Council in February, highlight progress made in policy relating to small and medium-sized enterprises and speak about a sustainable economy and stimulating European success in the global market.

State Secretary Tomaž Jeršič will also present the progress made by the Slovenian Presidency in the field of telecommunications and highlight the legislative package for electronic communications, mobile satellite services and the digital dividend.
