Western Balkans

During the Presidency and as a member of the EU trio, Slovenia will continue its efforts to keep enlargement policy high on EU's agenda, since this the most vital political instrument for attaining the stabilisation and transformation of neighbouring countries and making progress with structural, economic and political reforms. With regard to enlargement, Slovenia maintains that the countries of the Western Balkans have a clear European perspective, and will therefore endorse their integration in European organisations.

The Slovenian Presidency supports all activities that will truly benefit the countries of the region on their way to the EU, while at the same time strengthening local ownership. Moreover, Slovenia will make every effort to advance the European perspective of the countries of the Western Balkans, in line with the Salzburg and Thessaloniki Agendas, which outline a number of concrete measures. This will also be the central topic of the informal meeting of foreign ministers of EU member states and of countries of the Western Balkans to be held during Slovenia's Presidency on 28 and 29 March 2008 at Brdo pri Kranju.
