The Presidency strongly condemns the suicide attack in the province of Kandahar on 17 February 2008 as well as today’s suicide attack, directed against the Canadian peacekeeping forces, also in southern Afghanistan. Both claimed numerous lives, including innocent civilians’.
The Presidency conveys its deepest sympathy, condolences and solidarity to the families of the victims and to those who have been injured in these atrocities.
The EU reiterates its strong support to the Government of Afghanistan in the fight against terrorism and the general efforts to strengthen the rule of law. The EU remains committed to help the Afghan people to achieve lasting peace and stability in Afghanistan.
The EU reaffirms that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security.
