Young people with fewer opportunities

The youth event ‘Promoting the Participation of Young people with fewer opportunities in the society’ will start on 18 April 2008 in Ljubljana. The meeting is a traditional European meeting of young people, at which 150 participants from all the European Union Member States, EFTA States and the Western Balkan countries are expected.

The central purpose of the meeting is to provide opportunities for young people to meet and share opinions on possibilities for greater social inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities and the importance of intercultural dialogue for young people.

The opening ceremony of the youth event will take place at Fužinski Castle on Friday 18 April 2008, where Dr Milan Zver, Slovenian Minister of Education and Sport and current President of the EU Education and Youth Council, Mr Ján Figel’, European Commissioner for Education, Training, Culture and Youth, Mr Matjaž Štolfa, President of the National Youth Council of Slovenia, and Ms Bettina Schwarzmayer, European Youth Forum President, will speak to the young.

On Saturday 19 April 2008, the young people will take part in workshops focusing on improving the mobility of young people with fewer opportunities, on increasing and improving the employability of young people with fewer opportunities, their informal learning and mastering of competences, their social inclusion and political participation.

The young people will present the findings and conclusions of the youth event at the meeting of the Directors-General responsible for the implementation of youth policy that will take place at Brdo pri Kranju on Sunday 20 April 2008.
