Future youth policy

On Sunday 20 April 2008, the Meeting of Directors-General for Youth, chaired by Zorko Škvor, Head of the Office for Youth at the Slovenian Ministry of Education and Youth, will convene in Brdo pri Kranju. The meeting will be attended by the Youth Directors of the EU Member States, the European Commission and the Council of Europe.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Directors-General will be joined by young people who have taken part in the Youth Event and who will present the conclusions and findings of that event. The Directors-General will discuss the ten-year perspective for joint work in the area of youth policy. Special attention will also be paid to discussions on the participation of young people with fewer opportunities, which is an important Slovenian Presidency priority in the area of youth policy. Individual countries will present examples of good practices in this area as a basis for further discussion on possible actions.

In the context of preparations for a new cooperation framework in the area of youth policy, the European Commission will present initiatives and processes associated with the recognition of non-formal learning and voluntary activities of young people in Europe. A special item on the agenda will be mutual learning with the help of good practices designed to encourage the participation of young people with fewer opportunities.
