Current President of the EU Transport Council, Slovenian Minister of Transport, Radovan Žerjav, to present GALILEO Implementing Regulation to Members of the European Parliament tomorrow

Following the support of the EU Transport Ministers on 7 April 2008 in Luxembourg for the draft text of the Galileo Implementing Regulation, Slovenian Transport Minister, Radovan Žerjav, will present the text of the Regulation, which lays down the legal basis for the implementation of the budget and sets up a new management structure for the project, to the Members of the European Parliament at its plenary session in Strasbourg tomorrow.

If the MEPs vote in favour of the Galileo Implementing Regulation on Wednesday, the European Union will take a decisive step forwards in the implementation of the Galileo project, which has been, so far, the greatest technological challenge for the European Union in terms of providing its own satellite navigation system, and will help speed up the development of European industry in this field.

From the very beginning of its EU Council Presidency, Slovenia has made every effort to reach agreement at first reading on this important dossier (thus shortening the legislative procedure), thereby proving that Europe remains committed to providing high-quality satellite navigation services to every citizen and company in Europe by 2013.
