The President of the EU General Affairs and External Relations Council, Slovenian Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel, will head the meeting between the EU Troika and Afghanistan on 21 February 2008 at Brdo pri Kranju. The EU Troika will be represented by the Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy, Dr Benita Ferrero-Waldner, the French State Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Human Rights, Rama Yade, and the EU Special Representative for Afghanistan, Francesc Vendrell; from the Afghani side the meeting will be attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rangin Dadfar Spanta.
The EU–Afghanistan ministerial meeting will review the political and security situation in Afghanistan, discuss relations between the EU and Afghanistan, assess implementation of the Afghanistan Agreement and the fight against illicit drugs, and address the situation in the region.
