The President of the General Affairs and External Relations Council, Slovenian Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Dimitrij Rupel, today held separate meetings with Tribunal President Fausto Pocar and Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz at the seat of the International Criminal Tribunal for former Yugoslavia. This was his first meeting with Mr Brammertz who took office as Chief Prosecutor on 1 January 2008.
The meeting was dedicated to sharing assessments of Serbia’s cooperation with the Tribunal in the light of the EU Presidency’s preparations for a Council decision on bringing Serbia closer to the EU. At the close of the meetings, Dr Rupel said discussions had shed light on the background to the cooperation between the Tribunal and the Serbian authorities; he added that Chief Prosecutor Brammertz had not yet issued a prosecutor’s report assessing the situation, which meant that the report prepared in December by the previous Chief Prosecutor Carla Del Ponte was still current.
