Slovenian, German and Portuguese Defence Ministers present 18-month trio Presidency achievements in the area of defence

The results of the eighteen-month cooperation within the trio Presidency of the EU Council in the area of defence were presented on Thursday 26 June 2008, at a press conference in Portorož, by the Defence Ministers of Slovenia, Germany and Portugal, Karl Erjavec, Dr Franz-Josef Jung, and Nuno Severiano Teixeira. The Ministers agreed that a great deal has been achieved in the area of European Security and Defence Policy, the main priorities being crisis response operations, enhancing military capabilities and building strategic links with other international organisations, such as the UN, NATO and the African Union. The Slovenian Minister, Mr Erjavec emphasised that the Western Balkan region was high on the Slovenian Presidency’s list of priorities and pointed out the recent meeting of Defence Ministers from South-Eastern European countries, held in Podčetrtek, Slovenia.
