Mount Triglav, the highest mountain of Slovenia, links worlds of diversities. On one side lies the Upper Sava Valley with jewel-like lakes such as the elegant Lake Bled with a unique island, and Lake Bohinj with its idyllic romantic atmosphere. On the other side, below Slovenia’s highest mountain pass is the inviting valley of the emerald Soča River . Its rapids are home to the indigenpous Soča trout, while the peaks of the surrounding mountains are reflected in its surface. The world beneath Mt Triglav abounds in natural and cultural features of the Triglav National Park , one of the largest nature reserves in Europe. In Trenta, the Juliana Alpine Botanical Gardens guard unique alpine plants. On the way from Trenta through Bovec to Tolmin traces of the fiercest battles of WWI and the Soča (Isonzo) Front, which is documented in the award-winning Kobarid Museum .

The Sunny Alps are a paradise for all who seek for summer and winter activities. For many, the emerald Soča River is the most wonderful place in the world for water sports, Kranjska Gora, Planica, and Pokljuka rank high on the list of venues of international winter sport competitions. Above the Soča rises Slovenia’s highest ski resort on Mt Kanin, and everywhere there are countless possibilities for playing golf, hiking, mountaineering, cycling, horseback riding, paragliding, fishing, and other sporting pleasures.

Follow the call of the peaks

Besides Julian Alps, the peaks and valleys of the Karavanke Mountains and the Kamnik-Savinja Alps offer sunny pleasures of the mountains.The glacial Logarska Valley – a landscape park with marked trails, countless opportunities for outdoor activities, and cosy inns, is easily one of the most beautiful tourist destinations in Slovenia and Europe. In the summer, alpine dairy farms on the Velika Planina plateau high above Kamnik are a particularly inviting feature of Slovenian mountains. In the Karavanke Mountains lies Jezersko, an attractive town with sheep herding tradition, a lake, and one of Slovenia’s highest waterfalls.

The highest peak of the Julian Alps and the highest Slovenian mountain, Mt triglav, reaches the altitude of 2,864 metres and is the centre of the Triglav National Park .

Well maintained and marked trails run through the Sunny Alps – the longest is the Via Alpina route stretching over 800 kilomeres. Slovenian mountains and are home of some 170 mountain lodges, shelters, and bivouacs scattered across hills and valleys.
